Proposing a New Baccalaureate Program

1. Intent to develop a new program submitted to School Dean and Vice President Academic, Faculty, Student Affairs

Is the intended program a significant departure? The addition of courses or programs that represent at significant departure, either in content or method of delivery, from those that were offered when the institution was last evaluated.

Are costs greater than 2 million

2. UT Health submits Planning Notification to THECB of it's intent to propose new bachelor's degree after intent is received

3. Followed by the intent, UT Health faculty develops new bachelor’s program proposal using Full Request Form (see Standards for Bachelor’s and Master’s Programs)

4. Proposal reviewed internally at UT Health: School Curriculum Committee, AFSA Directors, Academic/Student Affairs Associate Deans, Dean’s Council, Administrative Council Executive Council (30-120 days)

5. 30-day notification and comment period to area IHEs within 50 mile radius is sent simultaneously as proposal is being vetted internally

6. Proposal to implement new bachelor's program approved by UT Health

7. Proposal and full request form forwarded to UTS Executive Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs

8. UTS Review and approval by Board of Regents for new bachelor’s degree request from UT Health that are non-engineering and > $2 million.(90-180 DAYS)

9. UTS Vice Chancellor of Health Affairs submits Certification or Full Request form to THECB

Prospectus for significant departure from previous approved programs submitted to SACSCOC; typically takes 3-6 months

Prospectus Due Dates: January 1 for 7/1-12/31 program implementation; July 1 for 1/1-6/30 for program implementation
